Preventing Legionnaire's Disease In Your Home

Preventing Legionnaires’ Disease in Your Home

While Legionnaires’ disease is rare, it’s important to stay informed. This disease is caused by breathing in legionella bacteria found in water systems, often in stagnant water between 20-45°C. For most homes, the risk is low, and regular monitoring by Clyde Valley Housing Association helps keep it that way for our customers.

Check out our video on Legionnaire's Disease for more info on the right.

Here’s what you can do to minimise any risk, especially after returning home after being away for more than a week:

🛁 Clean taps and showerheads regularly with a mild disinfectant.

🚿 Run taps and showers that haven’t been used for 5-10 minutes.

🌡 Run hot water through showerheads for 2-3 minutes.

🚽 Flush toilets twice to circulate water.

💧 Avoid areas where water could sit and collect bacteria
