Participatory Budgeting applications now live!

What is PB?

Participatory Budgeting involves local people in deciding on the spending priorities of defined budget. This means residents and groups from all parts of a community getting the opportunity to discuss local priorities, make spending proposals and vote on them.

£7,000 is available for the area of Hillhouse, Burnbank and Udston to help deliver some of the local priorities set out in Our Place Our Plan, your neighbourhood plan.

Groups and organisations can apply for up to £500, however proposals up to the value of £1,000 are welcomed, if the proposal is a partnership bid submitted by 2 or more groups/ organisations

How does it work?

  • · Come up with an idea.
  • · Get the support of other people.
  • · Fill in a Participatory Budgeting proposal form - this is straight forward and remember you can get help to fill it in.
  • · Submit your application by the
  • · Promote your proposal and encourage others to do the same.
  • · Public vote
  • · The community decides how to allocate PB funds.

What PB has supported so far:

Play park development, play equipment, conversion of rooms in schools and community facilities to purposeful spaces such as a sensory space, a gym, a family room and digital Hub community clean ups, weekend study programmes, skip initiatives, outdoor play opportunities, residential and camps under canvas, subsidised travel support for community Hubs and community cafes, and foodbanks, job fairs, youth activity, outings, educational trips, consultations, Big Breakfasts, community events, seasonal parties, Money Advice services, physical activity programmes for all ages, community safety initiatives, family learning activity, cookery classes, training courses garden tool hire, courses and classes, improvements to open and green space, development of recreational spaces, small scale physical improvements, silent disco equipment, music systems, complimentary therapies, gym and dance equipment, sports Strips, emergency food aid, fridges and freezer, kitchen equipment and much much more …………..

Hillhouse, Udston, and Burnbank

The Hillhouse, Udston, and Burnbank neighbourhood planning area has been allocated £7000 from South Lanarkshire Council to support participatory budgeting activity. These funds will help deliver local priorities outlined in the Our Place Our Plan, neighbourhood plan.

After community consultation concerning PB investment in 2023/ 2024. The Our Place Our Plan Stakeholder Group  welcomes application that address the following themes:

  • More leisure
  • Recreational and social opportunities
  • Better financial wellbeing
  • Stronger and better communities

The timetable for PB  is as follows:

  • Applications open, Monday 29th of January  
  • Applications close at midnight on Monday the 19th of February. 
  • Voting begins on Friday the  23rd of February.
  • Voting closes at midnight on Monday the 4th of March.

Guidance Notes

Please read the following conditions carefully before completing your application

1. Projects or proposed activity must address at least one of the Neighbourhood Plan priority themes.

2. Neighbourhood Plan funded activity must directly benefit people living in Burnbank, Udston and Hillhouse.

3. Project should be planned and/or delivered by January 2025.

4. The project must provide added value, funding awarded must not be used to replace any mainstream budgets.

5. A grant acceptance form and conditions of grant form must be completed by all successful projects.

What we can’t fund

  • Activities or events that are targeted to people who do not live in South Lanarkshire.
  • Retrospective events or purchases
  • Foreign trips (bus travel to or from airports / ferry ports can be considered)
  • Profitable activities
  • Insurance/licence fees (except for Temporary Public Entertainment Licences)
